Who we are

Yu Mei is a leather goods label devoted to the creation of understated luxury. Each bag design is born from the ethos that simplicity is complexity resolved, built for purpose to carry with ease.

Based in Wellington, New Zealand, Yu Mei’s mission is to create quality products that will weather your journey with you. Established by Jessie Wong in 2015, the Yu Mei brand is now available in over 40 retailers across Australasia, with flagship retail stores in Wellington and Auckland.

Yu Mei is known for minimal design aesthetics with a strong focus on utility and regeneration, carrying with you everything you actually need in a day. Yu Mei aims to inspire and engage forward-thinking individuals who understand refined, utilitarian aesthetics and commitment to a high-quality product that stands the test of time.

Being a part of the Yu Mei team means being a part of a small, purpose driven and community-oriented organization that punches above its weight. A high degree of internal and external collaboration is expected of our team, as is the ability to adapt and change as we innovate and navigate the fashion industry.

What you do

As the Production and Supply Manager, your role is to coordinate production and ensure our supply chains are managed in a clear and accurate manner. You are responsible for managing the process of bringing products to market, communication with our suppliers and manufacturing partners and overseeing supply chain operations and logistics.

You will also provide strategic and analytical capabilities - analysing product performance, optimising product and supply chain strategies, and working to ensure Yu Mei products align with our regeneration strategy.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Oversight, cultivation and direction of product and inventory strategies.
  • Responsible for working with external suppliers and manufacturers to manage the sampling and production process of leather goods, accessories and garments, as well as packaging and any other components required to bring a product to market.
  • Management of the full inventory ordering process, ensuring inventories are within budget, delivered on time and meeting stock requirements.
  • Responsible for creation of spec sheets, feedback and development sheets.
  • Assisting in the design of new products, in particular regarding materials and component procurement and technical specifications, as well as contributing fresh and relevant ideas.
  • Quality checking inward products and samples to ensure product is manufactured to specification and meets Yu Mei quality standards. Highlight any production issues in a timely manner and work with suppliers and Yu Mei leadership team to resolve.
  • Organisation and monitoring of international shipping to and from manufacturers and tanneries, managing importing and exporting requirements.
  • Oversight of inventory management and accuracy, working closely to support the Inventory Manager.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance supply chain efficiency and lead the development of longer term supply chain strategy.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on inventory performance, market trends and seasonality patterns to identify demand drivers, enable the creation of demand and supply plans, present strategies for ranges and buying recommendations, and minimise stockouts, aging and carrying costs.
  • Responsible for leading material research and development within the regeneration space, including work towards material or product accreditations to increase the reputation and diversify product offering.

Who you are

  • You are highly self-motivated, take initiative and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving and improvement opportunities.
  • You are deadline driven and take pride in your ability to deliver high quality work within tight timeframes or under pressure with little supervision.
  • You are flexible, adaptable and composed.
  • You have excellent written and oral communications skills and enjoy building and maintaining strong and trusted working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and strongly believe that sharing information empowers and enables the team in achieving it’s collective purpose.
  • You impress with your organisation and time management skills.
  • You have a professional manner and attitude and are ethical, responsible and reliable.
  • You are data driven and customer centric in your approach to creating strategies.
  • You are proactive, it is in your DNA to keep abreast of recent innovations, and key industry innovations.

What you bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • 2-5 years experience in equivalent or similar role.
  • Experience with Adobe suite, Google suite, Cin7, Shopify, and Excel.
  • Experience in product design and development, including working with external partners on sampling.
  • Experience with purchasing and the process of bringing product to market.
  • A good working knowledge of freight and logistics management
  • An in-depth understanding of inventory management, processes and reporting.
  • Experience using modelling and forecasting tools and analytical review and techniques
