Are you a student in your second or third year of a communications (or related) degree? Are you looking for something that enables you to gain hands-on experience and hone your craft? Do you have solid copywriting skills, a keen eye for detail, ability to work at pace, and passion for helping others? If you answered “yes” to these things, we’ve got an exciting part-time (15 hours per week), fixed-term opportunity where you’ll get the best of all these things and more!

The company

Our purpose at Gallagher is ‘Protect what matters most’ and we live it every day. Our technology can be found in more than 160 countries – protecting what matters most for government sites to global HQs, wildlife parks to dairy farms, palaces to prisons, and so much more.

Born in 1938, we’re a privately-owned tech company and headquartered in Hamilton. We have over 1,300 people throughout the world, protecting our customers with products which are made right here in New Zealand.

The opportunity

Our Group Communications & Community team have a broad remit to support the achievement of Gallagher’s ambitious business goals through fantastic communications and build connections with our communities.

As Communications Assistant, you will contribute to our primarily internal – and sometimes external – communications efforts. On a day-to-day basis this would involve researching and writing stories for our intranet, collaborating with our Visual Media Specialist from time to time to create videos and other materials such as posters and banners, curating content for our internal email newsletters, uploading content to our external Group site and building new pages on our intranet, supporting the logistics and set up for our internal events, and so on.

This role could suit someone in their second or third year of study and looking to gain experience at a large, complex, and global organisation. We are open to discussing how the 15 hours per week are structured.

What do you need to be our Communications Assistant?

  • An affinity with Gallagher’s purpose and values.
  • Strong and fast writing skills.
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise matter to ensure cut-through with our broad audience.
  • Ability to stay aligned with the Group Communication team’s strategy and priorities, and an understanding of the associated activities to execute it.
  • Ability to juggle multiple demands while remaining calm.
  • Someone who takes a creative approach in life and values attention to detail and quality, while balancing the need to get stuff done in a timely way.
  • A great attitude that prioritises supporting the team.
  • Ability to keep confidential information confidential.
  • Ability to maintain perspective and bring a positive attitude to work.
  • Hungry for feedback and eager to put it into action for future pieces of work.

What we offer

You’ll be joining a family culture with strong company values, and plenty of opportunities for growth and development. Our Hamilton site offers free on-site parking, a subsidised on-site café, and great eateries nearby.

If this sounds like an opportunity you’d be interested in, don’t delay. We’ll be shortlisting and interviewing candidates as soon as applications are received, and before the role’s closing date. That said, we know it's crucial we find the right fit for our organisation and team, so this ad will remain open until we've nailed that brief.

Please see the Position Description for more information. This role is based in our Hamilton office on Kahikatea Drive.

We look forward to hearing from you!
