Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an exciting, fast-growing company in the aerospace industry and develop world-leading technology. In this role you will primarily be involved in the assembly and testing of the main propulsion system of our Spaceplane and well as manufacturing and sourcing of components.

Your experience and good engineering judgement will be valuable contributors to design discussions and trade-offs. Your knowledge in the manufacturing, assembling and testing will be of great value in bringing Dawn's young and dynamic propulsion team to the next level. You'll get the unique opportunity to work on both suborbital and orbital vehicles.

You must have the ability and desire to work in a young company. If you want a smooth and routine role, this is not for you. We believe in giving you the tools you need, then getting out of your way.

Initially, this role will predominantly involve manufacturing and assembling. In future, there is the opportunity for the right candidate to grow into an engineering and design role and take ownership of certain subsystems on the engine and in the plane. We are looking for someone who can take initiative and work with minimal direction.

What you will do:

  • Support assembly and testing of the main engine for the Mk-II spaceplane.
  • Manufacture, integrate and test of propulsion system componentry.
  • Interpret and analyse test data.
  • Rapidly trouble shoot issues found during manufacturing and testing to come to a timely solution
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, and follow detailed work instructions
  • Lead the technical communication to suppliers for production activities.
  • Support mechanical integration of propulsion subsystems including liquid rocket engines, propellant tanks, and ancillary systems.
  • Writing of documentation, assembly manuals, test procedures, and test reports.

Requirements

What you have is...

  • A degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Hands on background with mechanical systems.
  • Supplier liaison for components and parts.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English
  • MS Office tools, full proficiency expected.

It would be great if you also had…

  • Use various mechanical tools without instruction including, but not limited to:
    • Using a Lathe.
    • Tig/Mig welding.
    • 3-axis CNC machine.
  • Experience in a relevant position covering rocket engine design and testing aspects (student project team and internship experience qualifies).
  • Experience with CAD tools, e.g. Solidworks
  • Experience with numerical analysis tools (eg. Matlab or Python)
  • Experience in design for additive manufacturing / 3D printing.

About Dawn Aerospace

Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company with a purpose. Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space.

We’re the fastest-growing supplier of green propulsion for satellites in the world. Our turnkey systems utilise safe, readily accessible fuels. We have an ever-growing amount of hardware in space having launched on the world’s busiest rideshare missions, flying on Falcon 9, Soyuz and Vega rockets.

We're also continuously working on cutting-edge R&D programmes. We’re building a spaceplane, the Mk-II Aurora, which will be the first vehicle in the world to fly to space and back again twice in a day. Mk-II takes off and lands on a runway, combining the performance of a rocket with the rapid reusability and economic model of an aircraft. Mk-II is a technology demonstrator for the Mk-III which will ultimately fly satellites, enabling an entirely new way to access space.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment with Dawn is decided based on merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any other manner. Dawn Aerospace is an Accredited Employer with Immigration New Zealand.

Important! If you think you have what it takes but are unsure that you check every box, we still want to hear from you.
